Slow making
There is no rushing handcraft. Each piece takes as long as it takes — and that time is exactly what gives it value. We do not batch, rush, or outsource.

“Every stitch is a small act of care — placed intentionally, for someone who matters.”
Stitches by Shell started in a tiny apartment in 2019 with a single skein of merino wool and a stubborn belief that handmade objects carry something mass-produced ones simply cannot: the invisible weight of someone’s attention and time.
What began as gifts for friends slowly grew into a small studio practice. Today every piece is still made entirely by hand, one stitch at a time — no machines, no shortcuts, no compromises.

The studio
There is no rushing handcraft. Each piece takes as long as it takes — and that time is exactly what gives it value. We do not batch, rush, or outsource.
We use merino wool, cotton, and plant-dyed yarns wherever possible. Soft on little hands, kind to the planet, and built to last a lifetime of being loved.
Even pieces from the same pattern come out slightly different. That is not a flaw — it is the whole point. You get something that belongs to you alone.
Nothing is cut from pre-made fabric or assembled from parts. Each creature is constructed through the actual knitting process — shaped, stuffed, and finished entirely by hand.
From the moment yarn is cast on to the final stitch being woven in, a single piece typically takes between 6 and 18 hours depending on size and complexity.
The right yarn makes all the difference. Colors are chosen, tension is tested, and a small sample swatch is knitted.
Head, body, ears, limbs — each piece is knitted separately in the round, then set aside for assembly.
Hypoallergenic fill and weighted pellets are added to give each piece its satisfying squishiness and weight.
Parts are seamed together and final hand-finished details bring out the character and expression.
Every piece is checked, photographed, and wrapped with care before being sent on its way.
Soft, breathable, and naturally temperature-regulating. Sourced from ethical farms with strict animal welfare standards.
A selection of our colorways use natural plant dyes for a softer, more earthy palette.
Safe for all ages, perfectly soft, and chosen for comfort and durability.
Sewn into a sealed inner pouch, these give our pieces their signature satisfying weight and tactile quality.
